The Mandurah Plein Air Artists Inc (MPAA) annual art sale and exhibition. Over 150 works in oils, acrylics, watercolour, pastel and mixed media on display and available for purchase. You may find a work that represents a local scene or subject that you know well and can even chat with some of the artists.

“En Plein Air” means in the outdoors. It is the international art movement that today represents what was previously known as, landscape painting. Plein Air artists strive to capture their subject outdoors on location, without any additional studio work.

This year’s theme is Map/Mapped/Mapping and artists are encouraged to delve deep into the many interpretations of these words to create their artworks.

The Mandurah Plein Air Artists are inviting artists of all skill levels and mediums to join in the fun of this worldwide event. Artists across the world will be participating in a weekend of plein air activities.

Artists are asked to also consider taking part in the Plein Air Down Under Outdoor Painting Festival to be held in Mandurah and Pinjarra from 23 – 25 September. More information is available at: https://pleinairdownunder.com/

Internationally, this year marks the 21st annual event, supported by International Plein Air Painters Worldwide Paint Out. This organisation, who has members worldwide, is the blanket organization for individual plein air groups and was created for the sole purpose of advancing the execution and enjoyment of plein air painting without limitations of borders or regions.

Spirit of the Landscape Exhibition Opening

Following the World Wide Paint Out, come inside the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre for the official opening of the Spirit of the Landscape Exhibition, at 2.30 pm

This exhibition celebrates the vast landscapes of rural, regional and remote Australia, through the eyes of exhibiting artists. In telling these stories, artists may choose to reference place, the people of remote communities, the topography of the landscape or the challenges of living and working in remote Australia.
