My artwork mainly explores regions of the Western Australian landscape hemmed by coastlines and inland waterways, a true to life record of my experiences and love for the scenery that features regularly in my artworks. Wherever my location, I am always fascinated and influenced by the rugged beauty of nature, with naturally occurring complimentary colour harmonies, and attracted to how light plays.
When creating my oil or acrylic landscape paintings, I consider various paint applications suitable to the subject matter. Sometimes bold gestural brushstrokes, or soft layers of transparent colour to create the impression of depth and space. Recently I have enjoyed building sculptural effects in thick impasto with brush or palette knife.
I work both outdoors en plein air and from my studio at Bouvard, south of Mandurah, overlooking the beautiful Peel Harvey Estuary and providing me with daily inspiration.
